                                   Improve Your Home Security!

Have you heard about 'lock snapping'?

Among the undesirables, the new current trend as a way of getting into your property is a method of forced entry that Burglars are using to gain access through your UPVC front or back door within 60 seconds! Scary, but sadly very true. The simple technique being used by intruders is to smash the door handle and then snap the internal cylinder in two.

'Secured by Design',the official police-approved scheme addressing security devices, has for some time been working with the British Standards Institute to improve UPVC door security, with specific attention paid to lock snapping. New standards have recently been introduced to over come this problem by using anti-snap cylinders. the quickest and most cost-effective solution is to upgrade basic Euro cylinders to security-enhanced anti-snap cylinder locks.

The new versions have anti-snap cut-outs on both sides of the cylinder so that if undue force is applied to one end of the cylinder, it breaks away leaving the locking mechanism inside the door and still doing its job. Burglars have become familiar with these new locks and they are proving to be a big deterrent.

          And always Remember.................

  • Lock your doors and windows every time you leave the house, even when you are just out in the garden, remembering to double-lock UPVC doors (lift the handle and turn the key)
  • Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letter box
  • Install a burglar alarm and or CCTV as part of your prevention measures
  • Install good outside lighting
  • Get a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property
  • Leave radios and lights on timer in your house to make it appear someone is home
  • Make sure fences are in good repair and that any overhanging greenery doesn't provide cover for an intruder
  • Mark all property especially tools in outbuildings with your postcode
  • Remove any valuables from view of ground floor windows
  • Store high value items in a safe
  • Make sure vehicles are secured and all valuable items removed
